A fund to assist nearly 40 families washed out of their homes in the Derwent Valley floods recently is being organised by the president of the Lutana branch of the A.L.P. (Mr. E. R. Cullen).
Mr. Cullen, who is also president of New Norfolk Trotting Club, suggested the establishment of a relief fund to the Warden of New Norfolk (Mr. R. M. Page), and already there has been a good response.
Mr. Cullen will be responsible for collection of funds from organisations in the Hobart area and suburban districts.
Donations to the relief fund may be lod'ged at New Norfolk Council chambers.

PLANS to accommodate the big increase in school population in the northern suburbs of Hobart were discussed yesterday by the Prernier (Mr. Cosgrove) with a deputation from the Lutan branch of the A..L.P.
Members of the deputation said they were concerned regarding the school accommodation in the Moonah and Goodwood areas. It was anticipated
that at the beginning of the new school year about another 200 children would reach the school age in these districts.
Information was sought regarding future accommodation. It was pointed out that if more accommodation was not provided it would not be possible for all reaching the school age to attend the Moonah and Bowen Rd. schools.
' The Premier said he had been watching the position closely, and the Government was doing its best to provide extra accommodation for the districts.
The erection of Mussett classrooms at the Bowen Rd. and Moonah schools had helped the position, and the Public Works Department would be calling tenders on Saturday week for the erection of the first section of the new primary school at Goodwood.
This would comprise four classrooms, and it was hoped to have the building in readiness for thc beginning of the new school year.
That building would overcome the present problem, but within the next couple of years it would be necessary for extra accommodation at Glenorchy, although an infants' school had recently been completed there.
