Polling Booth for the Australian Federal Election – October 1998.

There was an issue with the lights, due to the Hall being put up for sale the electricity had been turned off.

Before the close of the Polling Booth at 6 p.m. voting booths had to be moved to the western windows to get the last of the afternoon sun. After 6 p.m. ballot papers were bundled up and taken to Goodwood Primary School so the count could be conducted.

The Hall had been used as a polling place for quite a few decades so an interesting way to end this usage.

In 1991 CRESAP also advised closure of various kindergartens in Glenorchy, Lutana and Landy Ashbolt, which was also in Lutana. Parents fought against this, and in the end only Lady Ashbolt was closed, and the children were sent to Lutana.

One of the first in the municipalty was Lutana Free Kindergarten, set up by the EZ Company in the early 1920s in a hall owned by the company. In the 1970s, Lutana came under the control of the Education Department, to whom EZ leased the hall for a peppercorn rent while continuing to maintain the building as a free service. In the 1990s, 25 children attended the kindergarten on three mornings per week.
